Welcome to Alpha Loyalty, the app designed to help you run powerful loyalty programs that drive real results for your business.
What makes Alpha Loyalty unique?
It’s the only loyalty app built around the idea of multiple programs, allowing you to:
Target different customer segments
Test multiple strategies simultaneously
Keep draft programs ready to launch instantly when needed
Let’s get started with your first VIP program.
1. Create your first program
In Alpha Loyalty, there are two program types: Points programs and VIP programs.
VIP programs reward your most loyal customers by moving them into higher tiers with exclusive perks and benefits.
To start with a new VIP program, just click Add VIP program and proceed to the setup wizard.
2. Choose entry criteria
VIP programs are designed to reward active customers, so you’ll first need to define what counts as “activity.”
In Alpha Loyalty, criteria can be based on:
Total amount spent in your store
Number of orders placed
Points earned in a Points Program
All activity is calculated over the customer’s lifetime, not from the moment the program is launched.
3. Create your tiers
Next, you can set up your VIP tiers and define the entry thresholds.
For example, if you chose “Amount spent”, you can create tiers based on different spending thresholds.
You can fully customize:
Tier names
Thresholds
Branding and design
Once tiers are created, they appear in the Loyalty Widget, where customers can track their progress toward the next tier.
3. Configure one-time and permanent rewards
In Alpha Loyalty, you can reward VIP customers with both one-time rewards (given just once, when they reach a tier) and permanent benefits (available as long as they remain in that tier).
One-time rewards include:
Order discount
Product discount
Gift card
Free shipping
Free product
Permanent benefits include:
Order discount
Product discount
Free shipping
All rewards are tier-specific, so you set them up within the tier settings (up to 10 rewards per tier in any combination).
VIP rewards can be applied in two ways:
Manual application – when customers activate rewards directly in the widget
Automatic application – when rewards are applied automatically at checkout
You can use any of the methods, keeping in mind that Shopify limits you to 25 automatic discounts active at the same time across your store. So if you already have many discounts active, you may need to disable some before adding new ones.
In the Loyalty Widget, rewards are displayed under each tier. Customers can click a tier to redeem available rewards and see the benefits awaiting them in higher tiers.
4. Choose participants
To fine-tune who participates in your loyalty program, you can filter customers by tags. This is especially useful if, for example, you want B2B customers to receive different rewards than retail customers.
Use include/exclude filters in the program settings to define eligibility.
A customer can only participate in one program at a time.
If eligible for multiple, the one with the higher priority will apply. You can easily reorder program priorities with drag & drop.
5. Customize the Loyalty Widget
Your loyalty program is displayed on your storefront through a floating button (like a chat icon). Clicking it opens the widget where customers can:
View points earned
Check earning methods
Browse and redeem rewards.
Go to:
1. Branding → Widget Design to customize the look.
2. Branding → Content to adjust text labels.
Note: Some program-specific texts (like reward descriptions) are edited directly within program settings.
6. Enable the app embed
For the Loyalty Widget to appear on your storefront, ensure the Alpha Loyalty app embed is enabled in your theme. If not enabled, you can still activate your program, but your customers won’t see it.
Open your theme editor.
Locate Alpha Loyalty app embed.
Toggle it on and click Save.
7. Preview before launch
Click the three-dot icon next to any program and choose Preview to open a private preview mode in a new browser tab.
This will open a new browser tab with a demo widget enabled. You can preview the widget in the guest mode, or sign in as any registered customer.
Note: The preview is visual only - you can’t redeem rewards. For full testing, create a copy of your program assigned to a test customer account.
8. Launch and monitor
Once you’re satisfied with your program setup, just switch the toggle button to activate the program immediately.
All customer activity within loyalty programs (e.g., when an tier is reached or rewards are activated) is recorded in the Activity Board. From there, you can filter events by type and date.
For a more detailed view of a specific customer’s loyalty history, click on their name.
9. Iterate and experiment
Monitor the success of your programs and generate hypotheses for improvement.
You can use customer tags to create audience segments and test different program setups on them to find the most profitable mix.
