Displaying loyalty information directly in the cart helps customers understand the value they’re about to receive with their next order and never miss the potential rewards they have already received — increasing both engagement and conversion.
With Alpha Loyalty, you can show how many points a customer will earn for their purchase and which rewards they can redeem before checking out.
You can enable this feature on both modern (Online Store 2.0) and vintage (pre–Online Store 2.0) themes. The setup process differs slightly, so follow the instructions that apply to your theme type.
1. Configure the block in Alpha Loyalty
Before enabling the block inside your theme, first configure how it looks and what it says.
1. Go to Embedded blocks → Points & rewards - Cart page in your Alpha Loyalty dashboard and click Customize.
2. Edit the text for signed-in customers and guests. Variables like "Points balance" or "VIP tier" can be used to customize the messages.
If you want to remove an element (for example, a button), simply delete its text in the editor — the element will automatically disappear.
3. Choose colors, icons, fonts, and other visual styles.
4. Save your settings.
Once the block is configured, you can enable it inside your theme.
2a. Enable "Potential points" in a modern theme (Online Store 2.0)
If your theme is Online Store 2.0 (the majority of current Shopify themes), here's how you add the Alpha Loyalty app block to your product page template:
1. In Alpha Loyalty, click Manage in Theme Editor.
2. The Loyalty: Points & rewards block will be automatically added to your Cart template below prices and buy buttons.
3. Drag it to where you want it to appear on the page and click Save.
You can also access the same template through Online Store → Themes → Customize.
In this case, in the top template switcher, choose Cart:
And manually add the block via Add block → Apps:
2b. Enabling "Potential points" on vintage themes
Vintage themes do not support modern app blocks. Instead, the "Point & rewards" block is added as an app embed.
Thus, after clicking Manage in Theme Editor from your Alpha Loyalty dashboard, you will be taken to the App embeds section of your theme:
Make sure the toggle near the Cart page block (legacy) is enabled
Preview how your block appears on the page
Click Save.
Notes:
You cannot change the placement of the block in vintage themes. The app embed will be automatically inserted below the checkout button.
Some less common vintage themes require a manual setup.
If this applies to your theme, Alpha Loyalty will display a note with a small code snippet and instructions on where to paste it into your theme files.
