On-time vs permanent rewards in VIP tiers

In Alpha Loyalty VIP programs, customers unlock rewards as soon as they reach a new tier. These rewards can be configured in two different ways: on-time or permanent. Understanding the difference helps you design a more engaging and motivating VIP experience.

On-Time Rewards

On-time rewards are single-use benefits that customers receive when they first reach a tier.

Examples:

  • A one-time $20 discount code

  • Free shipping on the next order

  • A free product gift when entering Gold Tier

On-time rewards are great for celebrating the milestones and giving customers an immediate reason to engage after moving up a tier.

Available one-time reward types in Alpha Loyalty:

  • Order discount

  • Product discount

  • Gift card

  • Free shipping

  • Free product

Permanent Rewards

Permanent rewards are ongoing perks that remain active for as long as the customer stays in the tier.

Examples:

  • Always-on free shipping for Platinum Members

  • A permanent 10% discount across all orders

Permanent rewards provide long-term value, making higher tiers more attractive and encouraging customers to maintain their status.

Available permanent reward types:

  • Order discount

  • Product discount

  • Free shipping

Combining Reward Types

The most effective VIP programs use both reward types together. On-time rewards create excitement and instant gratification when a tier is unlocked. Permanent rewards build loyalty over time and reinforce the value of staying in the tier.

In the Loyalty Widget, these rewards are displayed separately. Customers can view them by clicking on any tier name.

Note: You can configure up to 10 rewards per tier in total.
