Reward - Gift card

The "Gift card" reward allows customers to redeem loyalty points for a store gift card. This is a flexible and motivating reward that gives customers the freedom to choose what they want while encouraging repeat purchases.

How it works

You define the value of the gift card and how many points are required.

Two gift card types are available:

  • Fixed gift card: A set number of points is exchanged for a specific value (e.g., 1000 points = $10).

  • Flexible gift card: Customers spend any number of points for a proportional value (e.g., 5 points = $1, up to a maximum limit).

Customers redeem points directly in the Loyalty Widget — there’s no need to proceed to checkout to claim the gift card.

Once redeemed, a unique gift card code is automatically generated and sent to the customer’s email.

Step 1: Open program settings

  1. Go to your Alpha Loyalty dashboard.

  2. Open the program where you want to add the reward.

  3. Click Add way to redeem -> Gift card.

Step 2: Choose redemption type

Choose between two possible modes of the redemption:

  • Fixed: Redeem a set number of points for a gift card of a specific value.

  • Flexible: Spend any available points for a proportional gift card value.

Step 3: Configure reward details

The settings differ slightly depending on the redemption type you've specified.

Fixed redemption

1. Redemption rule: Points-to-money ratio (e.g., 5 points = $1).

2. Optional prefix: Add a special prefix for the generated codes.

3. Widget texts: Customize the title and description in the Loyalty Widget.

Flexible redemption

1. Redemption rule: Points-to-money ratio (e.g., 5 points = $1).

2. Optional prefix: Add a special prefix for the generated codes.

3. Min/max point limits: Set minimum/maximum points that can be redeemed per gift card.

4. Widget texts: Customize the title and description in the Loyalty Widget.

Step 4: Save and activate

Save your settings and activate the reward.


If the program this reward belongs to is also active, eligible customers will now see it in the Loyalty Widget and can redeem it according to your rules.

Things to keep in mind

  • The app uses Shopify’s native gift card functionality, so all created gift cards are available in the Shopify admin under: Products → Gift cards

  • Once redeemed, a unique gift card code is generated and sent via email both to the recipient and to the customer who redeemed the gift card. This reward cannot be canceled after redemption.

  • All emails are sent by Shopify and follow your store’s gift card email settings: Settings → Notifications → Customer notifications → Gift cards

  • Customers can generate multiple gift cards, as long as they have enough points on their balance.
