Points expiration is a powerful tool that helps keep your customers engaged.
How it works
Expiration in Alpha Loyalty is based on customer inactivity, not a fixed calendar date. If a customer does not earn or redeem points within the set timeframe, their points will expire automatically.
Any activity - earning or redeeming points - resets the expiration timer, so engaged customers always keep their points.
Example
Suppose you set the expiration period to 30 days:
If a customer does not interact with your program for 30 days, their points will expire.
โIf the customer earns or redeems points during that period, the countdown restarts from the date of that activity.
This approach rewards customers who actively engage with your store while gradually removing points from inactive users.
Setting up points expiration
You can configure points expiration in a few simple steps:
Navigate to Settings
Switch the toggle button for Points expiration
Set your desired inactivity period in days, weeks, months, or days
Once configured, the system will automatically monitor customer activity and apply point expiration according to your settings.
In the Loyalty Widget, customers will see an hourglass icon, which displays a tooltip showing the exact expiration date of their points.
For best results, itโs also recommended to clearly explain your point expiration rules in your program description, so customers understand how and when their points may expire.
