The "Subscribe to newsletter" earning rule lets you reward customers with loyalty points when they subscribe to your marketing emails. It’s an effective way to grow your mailing list, strengthen customer retention, and encourage ongoing engagement with your store.
How it works
When a customer subscribes to your newsletter, the system automatically applies the reward and adds the configured points to their balance. The reward will also appear in the customer’s rewards history inside the Loyalty Widget.
Things to keep in mind
This rule does not apply retroactively. Customers who already subscribed to your newsletter will not receive points for this activity and will not see this earning method in their Loyalty Widget.
Customers can only earn this reward once. If they unsubscribe, the previously granted points will be deducted. If they subscribe again later, those points will simply be restored — no additional points will be awarded.
Even if your store doesn’t currently have an email or SMS subscription field, customers can subscribe directly through the Loyalty Widget. Once subscribed, their status will appear as ‘Subscribed’ in your Shopify admin, and you can start using their emails for marketing activities.”
Setting up the rule
1. Specify points earned
Decide how many points customers should receive for subscribing to your newsletter.
2. Customize widget texts
Configure the award title and description that will appear in the Loyalty Widget.
These two lines create the card for this earning method, letting customers know what they can earn.
3. Save your settings
Once saved, customers who subscribe to your marketing emails or SMS will automatically receive their points.
