Enabling announcement bars

Announcement bars are an effective way to promote your sales store-wide. Once created and activated, they will be displayed on all pages of your website except checkout.

Important: Before creating a banner, make sure to enable the Alpha Sale app embed. Without this, your banners will not be displayed.

Linked vs. standalone bars

An announcement bar can work in one of two ways:

  • Linked to a campaign. The bar is connected to one discount campaign and follows that campaign's schedule — it shows when the campaign is active, and hides when it isn't.

  • Standalone. The bar isn't tied to any campaign. Instead, it runs on its own schedule:

    • Activate immediately

    • Schedule for a later date

    • Run weekly

    • Run monthly

    • Leave inactive

Creating a bar

You can create an announcement bar in two ways:

  1. From the app menu ("Announcement bar" section). Choose whether the bar should be linked to a campaign or standalone. If linked, select the campaign; if standalone, set its own schedule as described above.

  2. From a campaign's settings. This creates a new bar and links it to that campaign automatically.

Customizing your announcement bar

The announcement bar allows for customization. You can:

  • Enter the desired text.

  • Choose one of the default colors or set a custom color scheme.

  • Specify a URL if you want the bar to link to a specific page.

Adding a discount code to your bar text

If your bar is linked to a coupon campaign, or is standalone, you can add a discount code to the bar text with a click-to-copy button. This option isn't available for price reduction or automatic in-cart discount campaigns, since there's no code for customers to enter.

If you have several active bars

Only one bar is shown at a time. If more than one is eligible to display, they're shown in priority order — go to Announcement bars dashboard and drag them into the order you want.

A couple of things that affect which bar a customer actually sees:

  • If a campaign uses customer tag targeting, its linked bar may not be visible to every customer. When that happens, the next bar in priority order that the customer is eligible to see is shown instead.

  • Campaigns targeted to specific customer segments can't have a linked announcement bar — segment membership can't be checked on the storefront, so there's no reliable way to know who should see the bar.

What happens if a linked campaign is deleted or changed

If the campaign linked to a bar is deleted, or switched to target customer segments, the bar isn't deleted — it becomes a standalone bar you can later activate or link to another campaign.
