With Alpha Sale, you can set up different types of discount campaigns, which can be used separately or combined. Whenever creating a new discount campaign, you’ll be asked to choose one of the discount types.
Now, let’s look into each discount in detail.
Price reduction
“Price reduction” campaigns let you display discounts on product pages and product cards. This way, customers notice your sale as soon as they land on your website.
When you set up a price reduction campaign, the app directly changes the product prices, just as you would in your store's admin panel, but much faster.
This feature is especially useful for:
Displaying sale badges and crossed-out prices across your entire website.
Ensuring discounts are applied to all sales channels, including POS.
A thing to remember is this campaign type does not display crossed-out prices at checkout. However, you can set up a savings widget in the cart to show customers how much they are saving.
Plus, you can promote your sale with a site-wide announcement bar, which you can fine-tune in terms of colors and messaging:
In-card product discount
This campaign type applies discounts to specific products during checkout — either in the cart or at the final step.
These discounts won’t be visible on product pages or product cards, and you won’t be able to promote them with an announcement bar. However, unlike price reduction campaigns, they allow you to target specific customers and create advanced discount conditions (like, only applying the discount to orders of minimal value and more).
There are two modes:
Coupon codes: Sent to specific customers or used in marketing.
Automatic discounts: Applied automatically, no coupon needed.
This Alpha Sale’s feature is an alternative to Shopify’s in-built discounts but with many more customization options, letting you:
Target products by vendors or tags.
Target customers by tags.
Set condition groups (e.g., products in a collection from a specific vendor).
Exclude certain products or customers.
Exclude products that are on sale from coupon use.
Combine discounts with site-wide offers, applying only the largest discount (e.g., if a product has a $20 discount and the customer has a $30 coupon, only the $30 coupon will be applied, giving an additional discount of $10).
Schedule discounts to run regularly (e.g., weekly or monthly).
Set a maximum discount limit (e.g., a 10% discount capped at $100 per order).
In-cart order discount
Order discounts apply to the total order amount, independent of the products purchased.
These discounts won’t appear on product pages or product cards, and you also won’t be able to promote them with an announcement bar.
However, they can be tailored to specific customer segments, such as frequent buyers in a loyalty program, and are applied during checkout — either with a coupon or automatically.
Compared to Shopify’s default functionality, Alpha Sale’s order discounts offer more flexibility:
Target customers by tags.
Exclude certain customers from the discount.
